Milk purchase and consumption patterns in peri-urban low-income households in Kenya

Milk plays an important role in the growth and development of children. In Kenya, it is one most produced consumed animal-sourced foods, but often small amounts among children low-income families, especially urban settings. The aim study was to identify household milk purchase consumption patterns milk, with emphasis on young children, as well estimate key determinants such areas leverage increase consumption. Results showed that 98% households purchased unprocessed fresh at least once during 7 days prior survey, while only 17% packed pasteurized milk. Findings from Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) model behavior suggest amount unpacked by positively significantly related income, number below age 4, budget food. price quantities were negatively purchased. Consumption for 4 dairy products are commonly part dishes than individual products. Informal markets played a meeting needs recommended amounts. clear association income intake calls efforts government support sector policies promote availability affordability feeds case informal markets.
